I don't know what my blood sugar is, but I play hockey and over the course of a weekend, I play four games. I can't get through one without getting a headache. But, if I have a piece of chocolate after the game I'm all better. Does this mean anything?

This may not mean anything, but I was just curious. Now that I think about it, if I do up-downs during the day, I have to have some chocolate before or I get dizzy. Maybe I'm just weird?

It wouldn't hurt to get it checked. You never know. My grandma has type 1 diabetes and she didn't get til she was 33, while most type 1 get it when they are like 10. So you should maybe go to the doctor. ALthough, I'm not a doctor so I don't really know

You may be dehydrated, or get a little hypoglycemic. That's when your blood sugar gets low from not eating properly or on time. Dehydration is the first thing I would think of because you get a headache as one of the first signs. If you are drinking plenty of fluids but you have not eaten properly before a game, you deplete your sugar stores and feel a little dizzy. Chocolate is not the right thing if you are an athlete. the glycemic index will give you a quick sugar high then a crash. My suggestion is to try a good sports drink with electrolytes in it for stamina. (gatorade or some fitness water.) try to keep a piece of fruit or cheese and crackers if you need a quick pick up. It is better for you and the sugar is not going to spike then drop. It may keep you on a more even balance. Hope this helps.

Absence of caffiene if your addicted can cause headache.

It could also simply be that your body is used to getting that quick energy that is found in the chocolate.

What I suggest is that you eat more complex carbs before the games. These include: whole wheat bread, meat, peanut butter, spaghetti, any noodles.

Then directly after the games, eat jelly beans, gatorade, or fruit.

Hope this helps.
