Compile a portfolio. Get a copy of a book like Artists & Graphic Designers Market or Childrens Writers & Illustrators Market. Those publications will provide you with information on submitting your portfolio to the appropriate publishers.

Good luck!

You can use the artist and illustration books. those are hit and miss.. And it costs money for slides and postcards keep sending your postcards out.. ... but check craiglist too and make lots of phone calls open that phone book call designers magazines newspapers local business ( logos can keep you busy) what's the worst they can do say no.., Go meet people, go to expensive wine bars...go where rich people are take a tiny cool portfolio. Introduce yourself.... I have made over $60,000-plus.... I paint murals in houses..... You are selling yourself not just your art Some artists can be the best artist in the world but the worst personalities ( drugs and flakes and jerks)
I am an artist and I meet rich people I am not kidding they love to help out struggling artists They may take advantage at first but your world can open up. It's all about marketing yourself ( you don't even have to be that great of an artist but It helps... ) Man write your own children's book... Churches and auctions are great... do stuff for free...... I eat sleep and drink my art. I even bore my friends. but I am my own corporation. Or my bills don't get paid. good luck.

The first thing you may want to do is create a web page with all your qualifications and perhaps some examples. Make sure that they are copy written though. Put a search in for jobs and see if that helps you. You may want to try to contact individual companies that interest you. Use that search engine and you will find what you are looking for.

from what i'm told, you can put together a portfolio and submit to publishing company or you can contact local author and illustrate for them to get works published. Than you can take your published works and submit them to the publishers. most publishers won't talk to you if you don't have published works.

well, just an ideas.
