I like both Mac and PC. Both to me are stable. I just don't know what is the rant that everybody has when they made the switch and feel they have to be part of this little elitist world of Mac Switchers? Is it a gangster thing when they first join they are the only ones fighting? And you PC people too doing the same thing to defend what you got.

I can't figure out why can't us PC and OSX people getting along without having to pull out their thing to shows who's is bigger.

And if I have a VAIO running OSX, does this make me a bad person to both sides?

Ok for the FreeBSD and Linux people, I wasnt talking about you. You guys tend to be the ones watching on the sidelines laughing at all this.

Also I was looking for what is all the arrogance about? I wasn't comparing the operating systems nor hardware, I was comparing the people who have war between each other. I just want to know why is everybody so fussy. Its the arrogance that is turning me off to Apple, I can't even walk into the Apple Store without rolling my eyes. I absolutely hate Elitists. Even the French, because they are so anti American they are anti PC, so they buy Macs (isn't Mac American???) and rant and rant. I just want to use whatever computer without someone over my shoulder talking about "hey my Mac is better" or "Hey my PC can play more games then your Mac" Its a two sided thing.

ZATHANDRO, d3v10u5b0y.....You two are the only ones who have come close to answering the question.

So far most of what I can get here are just pure Apple or PC power like a butch power dyke with a fem mullet on another power trip, and not answers to the question.

I think there are a lot of reasons why people are so arrogant and ignorant about the whole thing. I think with "Mac people" a lot of the time it's the feeling that they are part of an artsy high class group people. Because "EVERYONE" knows that artistic people use macs. (I'm being sarcastic, but i hear that said so often.)

With the PCs I think it comes from the idea of not being a trendy hipster.

Overall I think it stems from a feeling people have of needing to protect and justify to themselves and everyone else why their computer is better. They spent a chunk of money on the thing and boy would they feel worthless if someone proved that their computer was soooo much better as people always say theirs is.

Now, on the debate between PC and MAC. It's lame. Both are good, both have their places and uses. Use whichever you like more, and let everyone else use what they want.

The two types of machine are like different species of animals. I have a lot of experiences with PC's (so much that I get sick of it from time to time). From what I've seen so far, Macs indeed has a much more intuitive user interface then Windows. Macs, other then the Power PC models, have slick hardware design as well, which pack everything into tight packages and rather then having peripherals and wires running around.

Also, Apple is more about creating better computer technology rather then making money, well, at least along the rehtorics of Steve Jobs. Microsoft rarely makes first innovations. Microsoft is all about finding out what is the most important product and making cheap sub-par one that floods the market. Recall the browser war of Internet Explorer vs. Netscape Navigator, and how Firefox has risen from the ashes of Netscape as the superior internet browser.

Also, Apple is the small guy, which is easier to root for. There are also other historical tibits of personal computers (not just IBM-compatible PCs) that fuel the rivalry, but then again, the answer is getting long and people would get bored. Hope this gives you some perspective. :-)

p.s. Not really getting in Linux and FreeBSD, those are even more different animals. As for your setup, you are just fine. I am actually thinking of buying a MacBook (or whatever apple now calls its laptops) with an intel chip in it. I can't live without PC's (at least not yet), but I want to enjoy the slick design people have been raving about.

If you want an interesting and informative view on what you're talking about, I suggest reading the book below. Cialdini in his book talks about seven phenomena which play into a person's decision making and the effect other people have upon influencing another's decision making, and committment to a previous decsion is one of those factors.

The annoyance you're talking about actually goes way beyond computers and speaks to a fundamental psychological phenomenon. When someone makes a decision, they find reasons to justify the switch they made. Almost any recent convert in anything from computers to religions is going to be really excited about their new situation and critical about where they were before.

What you're talking about with recent Macintosh converts you'll see in different forms in everything from nonsmokers to born-again Christians. Regardless of the change being made, there was some decision behind it that was committed to and psychologically we find ways to reinforce that committment to ourselves.

To some degree it's human nature and it can't be helped, but I do agree with you that it would be nice if some of the more excessively zealous folks would tone it down a bit, and it would *REALLY* be wonderful if some wouldn't find it so necessary to bash on other people's choices to justify to themselves the decision they made, and sometime you wish you could grab them by the scruff of the neck, throw them in a bathroom stall and toss a ruler in to have them settle it once and for all (for some reason it's been my experience that this is almost exclusively a guy thing).

There are things to like about all the platforms, and each has something it excels at over the others. For better or worse, Apple has made evangelism more a core part of their business strategy so you see a bit more of it with Mac's than with other OSes, but each group has its boosters (and we all know who they are). However, in any event it has less to do with the machine and more to do with the owner.

You've made your windows stable, and resistant to viruses and spyware and the dreaded blue screen of death!

Most PC people haven't been as lucky. Some learned the hard way, others will never learn!

The mac just works! out of the box!

The hard core gamers overlook that the mac runs windows better than most 'pc's.

The vaio is a sweet machine, but many 'pc's are not!

Every new release of software makes windows run slower, and os x run faster.

we become more annoying because we have less to worry about!

I'm right there with you, man. I don't understand it myself. It's like OSX, Win, and Linux users are all treated as completely different species - especially in tech forums. All have their benefits and defects. I just happen to be a PC user (primarily because I'm a gamer)

I work on both (Mac at work and PC at home) and honestly, its like telling the difference between Coke and Pepsi. They both work fine, I have no problems on either the MAC or the PC, and I am just as comfortable on either one. (and Coke and Pepsi taste the same to me *snicker*)
Why cant we all jusss git along??? :-)

it is human nature that most people tend to fear and dislike change. it's the same for almost every situation, eg haircuts, people fear bad haircuts. it makes them uncomfortable, not in control....
