Its a silverish blue main color, with an orange spot on the tail, im not sure if its a goldfish or a koi, it has whiskers, and a mouth like a koi but dosent look like the right shape on the pectorial fins... when i feed him goldfish flakes, he wont surface to get them most of the time, the pump pushing water in will push the flakes down then he will eat them, and he gose to town on the gravel, but spits it out....any ideas?... hes about 5inchs or so.. Thanx!

Sounds like a koi to me, primarily because goldfish don't have whiskers. Also, koi don't like flakes - they prefer the pellets (especially the sinking ones). It's possible the pectoral fins look strange because either a) it's a butterfly koi or a standard koi/butterfly cross, or b) it's a deformed koi (especially possible if you got it from a Wal-Mart or some other chain with low breeder standards like that), or c) it's a goldfish/koi hybrid. They can interbreed, and the offspring look like mutts - not a very good looking goldfish, and not a very good looking koi, either. They are generally rusty colored, and look kind of like a big comet, but with the whiskers. Also, that picking up of the gravel and spitting it out - that is classic koi behavior. Get him (or her - hard to tell at 5") a buddy or two and see how it goes. You can also go to www.koivet.com - they have lots of different pictures of different types of koi, and have lots of lists of FAQ regarding koi behavior, illnesses, etc., that might help you out, too.

Hope this helps.
