doing someone elses work and they get the credit?

Question

Im 21 work for a reasonable plumbing company that i'd like to be with for a long time. I am doing really well and im chasing marketing manager's position as im being trainied in that area and hopefully in the end general manager but the lady who is currently marketing mngr is palming all her work load to me i am doing it all and she is getting credit for it im doing it with smiles because i dont want my Boss to think i dont want to work for them but i just want to tell him that im doing the marketing work and not the actual marketing lady. To say it straight out i want the marketing position but i dont want to make it look to my boss im winging about the current marketing lady and that i do all her work. my other collegues know that im doing all her work but its difficult to approach the boss? does this make sense

You have an obligation to YOURSELF to take credit for your own work. If you're not speaking up, shame on you. The next time she is offered praise in your company, you'd do best to pipe up and say "Thanks, I worked really hard on that."

Unfortunately I know this situation all too well. My boss passes things off onto me because he knows that I can handle them, but some of these things I am NOT supposed to see. He insists that I remain quiet on every little thing that I do. What really sucks is that I have two co workers and they can do what they want ,how they want, and when they want. Then I am told to clean up their crap at the end. Since I have the lowest seniority in this department, I am the only one who has to abide by his rules. One of the people has been there for 14 years and if she doesn't want to do something; it ain't getting done.

I have resolved myself to just looking at this position as stepping stone. I know that things will not change and no one sees what I can do, since I have everybody taking the credit for the work. It is a lose -lose situation. I am resolved to finding something else.

My suggestion to you is to sit back and decide do you want to live in someones shadow, or do you want to do something different and more challenging? Once you answer that then you will know how to move forward.

This is not to say that every little thing you do needs acknowledgment, but something at some point in time would be good. You need to find a position with this balance, or figure out how to achieve this at your current place of employment.

You could approach your boss with a collegue to back you up.

Or maybe your collegues could bring it up with your boss.

Of course, you could always ask your boss to talk to the marketing lady about what's in the marketing work...if she doesn't know the details, he'll know that she didn't do it herself.

yah you have to say something but you cant do it when youre mad. if you dont, then you're going to look like they dont need you and you may lose your job. but you dont want them to think youre throwing the other gal under the bus.
