I think its ridiculous that with 30,000 children in this world dying of starvation every day, people have the nerve to talk about the morality of gay marriage... the real moral issues are being hidden with all this obsession with who marries who!

That depends on one's feeling about marriage in general. Many people see marraige as a religious sanctification. Most do, after all, get married in a church. If they feel homosexuality is a sin, which many Christians seem to feel, it makes sense that they would be against gay marraige. However, athiests can also be married and probably don't do it in a church. This chasm will never close. Religious things tend to be non-negotiable. However, at the very least gay people to form a civil union with all the legal rights as heterosexual couples. In fact, they could just start refering to all marraiges as "civil unions" and there would no longer be separate-but-equal situation. It would simply be a change of vocabulary and everyone would be happy.

They are NOT the same as everyone else, otherwise it wouldn't be an issue. Gay people cannot be considered married, because they do not fit the profile of what marriage is, a union between a man and a woman. Man did not create marriage, so if you want to argue that point, argue with God. But, I do believe in civil unions, and think that gay people should have all the legal protections that come with cohabiting with a significant other.

Tough one.

I think marriage should be for a man and a woman. But I'm not against a gay union of some sort. Love is love, right? If two people are living together as spouses, I'd think everything about their relationship is traditional except being the same sex. If that's the case, they should be entitled to things like insurance benefits and things like that and should be recognized as a loving and committed couple.

But I guess the religious part of me wants "marriage" to be for a man and a woman.

Good question.

My opinion on gay marriage is that, if I were to vote on it, my vote would be that I would legalize it. I am gay. I want equal respect and the same rights as everyone else.

It's really all about what I just said. And it's about the belief that no one chooses to be gay. I didn't choose it. I realized that I am and I accepted what I am.

It is not morally wrong, in and of itself. And it would not be politically wrong, ......

IF

.... it were proactively legalized by the voters or by the legislature(s).

But it is both morally wrong and politically wrong for the courts to legalize it. I am absolutely convinced that the judges in Massachusetts were liars. And a lie is both morally and politically wrong.

They are indeed pretty much like everybody else, but the word "marriage" has historically been used to designate a heterosexual union, and I am loath to try to expand the meaning. But the notion of a civil union, which is basically the same thing with a different name, suits me just fine.

It should be legal in all states, gay people should have the same rights. I would love to get married one day. Being gay is not easy, it would make it easy if we all had the same rights.

Its a civil rights issue. I am gay and I have no plans to get married, but I think others should be allowed to do so.
