i had surgery on my wrist feb 9th and had a metal plate put in. after 10 days in a splint, they put me in a cast. i have an appointment march 21st for more x rays. do you think it is possible that i could get the cast off that day? or do you think they will tell me to come back in two weeks or something?

It's quite probable they may remove the cast and replace it with a supportive splint. The tissues and bone will have healed enough that a full fledged cast is not needed, but they won't have healed enough to allow you to go without some sort of protection and support. You could also discuss the matter with the doctor and get his opinion on it. In the end, though, I'd recommend going with his opinion, since you paid for the surgery and went through the pain to before and after the repair. It seems a shame to undo good work because you get impatient to remove the cast early. A few more weeks of it should be tolerable if you know things are getting better.

I got into an accident in 2004 and broke most of the bones in my body and when i woke up my arm was in a cast but inside the cast my arm was held together with a long bar with ten screws..aftet about a week they took removed the cast to take a look at it and it was fine..then they put another cast on it and withing another week i went for x-rays and they removed the cast for good so chances are you will have the cast off on the 21st..the reason they leave it on for so long iso the screws that hold the plate in place can heal a bit..so i'm sure they will remove the cast..you can count on it..

March 21 would be about 6 weeks from the surgery. There is a possibility your cast may be removed depending on the healing of your bone which will be assessed with xrays. Just follow your doctor's advise. he will know what's best for you.

It all depends upon how the healing has gone. If you are young, there's a good chance.
