On Feb 22 on Larry King....KING: OK, Barbara. What do you make of the Anna Nicole thing? The whole story?

WALTERS: I feel very sad for that beautiful little baby who one of your people kept calling the kid. Other than that, Larry, I may be one of the few people in the country who has not been following the story. And we have discussed it very little on "The View".

KING: Why do you think so many people are following? Why do you think there is such a fascination with it?

WALTERS: I don't know. Why do you? You do it every night.

KING: We do it, but I can't figure it out. I know I do it, the producers book it, I do it, we talk about it. But what is the fascination of it?

WALTERS: I'm not sure I know. I think there are more interesting things to discuss, more things that are important to people, more things that are inspirational to people. It's a very tawdry story. An awful lot of people seem to be involved. And I guess it's, you know, it's tabloid at its extreme.

KING: Now, "The View", though, has discussed Britney Spears. In fact, I think you even said you spoke to her manager, right?

WALTERS: Yes, I feel that's a different story. Britney Spears...

KING: Why?

WALTERS: Because this is a young woman who had great talent and still does have great talent and had a whole wonderful life ahead of her. And we have seen a lot of young people who seem to have it all misuse it and fall into terrible, terrible trouble.

barbara walters needs to stick to talking about things she knows....
think about it. as opposed to reporting the NEWS (economy, iraq, social relations in america) like she used to do,

she now spends her time on the View discussing popular culture, a culture composed of individuals 30+ years younger than her !!!!(shes 77!)
i think at this point shes just trying to keep her job....saying whatever the mouthpieces at her network think are nice and most importantly politically correct.

anna nicole wasnt the brighest crayon in the crayon box, but britney is a few shades dull herself, i dont care if she can dance (cuz she surely cant sing) or not. (great talent! is she serious?)

I agree with Walters. Everyone else who responded otherwise, I feel, is completely nuts. While I don't necessarily agree with The View's focus on Spears or whatever the heck they focus on (I don't watch it, and I'm sure Walters is irritated that she's on such a trashy show) I think that people seriously need to back off the Anna Nicole thing. I think it's tragic she died young, I think the loss of her son was horrible for her, and what's worse, I think the fact that she has clearly been a drug addict for years and those around her didn't care to help her and instead exploited her was horrible. While it's a shame she died how she did, there are far better things for the news to focus on. There's currently a genocide going on in Darfur that the UN is doing their best to ignore and no one cares to call them on it. The Presidency in America is out of control and overstepping their Constitutional boundaries. The Gaza Strip just reopened.
I think it's sad we focus on this train-wreck of a woman because we're a bunch of sad freaks who get off on other people's pain. We need to grow up, get informed about the real world and stop paying so much attention to celebrities. Stop buying what the media is shoving down your throats.

Maybe she thinks her point is valid because Britney is not a trainwreck like Anna Nicole?? Yeah right! She will talk about BS (no pun intended) b/c she's still alive to give BW an interview after the whole rehab incident is over....I'm sure BW is already stalking for the juicy story!

Barbara Walters threw away every ounce of respectability and objective jounalism when she hired Rosie for her "down the tubes" The View show.

i think barbara walters is right on not really covering the anna nicole story because every other news station is doing it and it's all over the internet for everyone to read and besides there are more important things you can cover. the war for example is not talked enough and there more of a celebrity than anna nicole. troops die for their country everyday fighting for their freedom and anna nicole did nothing for the country. i agree with barbara.

My opinion of Barbara Walters changed immensely over the Star Jones incident on The View. I no longer hold her in the high esteem that I use to and this just goes to prove my point.

so what is she saying,to hell with anna, what blowhole not say anything meaner.I think this story is important, mostly cuz of the baby,i'm worried on the outcomes of the baby, her future, that psycho Howard guy(i swear he looks like a psycho)and then the mother coming out of nowhere and acting all retarted at daniel's grave,i mean poor anna she was just surrounded by jerks...the only honest person i see here is Larry and yeah bohoo Britney that's another one that needs help, but Walter's has to see that there's a baby at stakes(sp?) here.

I think it is in poor taste. Barbara Walters lost a lot of credibility when she backed Rosie in her feud with Donald, and this just adds to it.
