In Baltimore City, there were 177 criminal jury trials - or roughly 3 a week.

Given the high caseload, plea bargains free up time for the courts, attorneys and others involved. The defendant receives a quick disposition and can serve their sentence or probation without delay.

I took a plea bargain. I was facing 7 counts in 2 separate criminal cases. The state told me to plea guilty to any count of any case and the other case would be nol prossed (not prosecuted). I plead guilty to one count in one case and lo and behold, the other case was dropped. After my disposition, I filed papers to expunge the other case to at least clean up my record.

Plea bargaining avoids a trial.

It's controversial to some people because a defendant can often get a lesser sentence by plea bargaining than they would if they went to trial and were convicted on all counts.

What most don't realize is that the majority of cases are actually resolved in settlement talks and plea bargains. If they weren't the criminal justice system would be much more overloaded than it currently is.

our so called justice system has become so crooked that it would take a complete overhaul to get it straightened out , when the prosecutor is a crook and has his law enforcement officers to lie and he lies himself just to get a conviction, and the judge in many caes knows this is going on how can we call it a justice dept? our country has a 98.8%conviction ratio that means unless you have at least $100.000 to buy a lawyer , you go to prison guilty or not , it doe's ot mean better police work, if a person is arrested in this country and don't have $100.000 , he is apointed a public pretender, who does exactly what his employer",the state" wants him to do get you convicted.yet ex cons, are familar with the system so if they are arrested, they will plead guilty because they know it is useless to go in to our crooked courts. as they know they wil get less time even if the are not guilty,
why don't people remember the 47men In Illinois who were framed by the police and prosecutor, and were given the death sentence, a reporter set up some of the cops and called in the F,B,I, THE F,B,I, proved 35 of these menn were not guilty , or the scandel in Los Angles the cops were committing crimes and arresting some others and most plead guilty, now Calif, is trying 1000s of cases again,in both instances they proved the prosecutors were involved in setting these men up .yet not one cop has been tried, and the prosecutors punishment is one is the ATTORNEY GENERAL for Illinose, our jury of peers just finished watching Law and order or some other crime scene movie and the writer planned it where the evil one always beatst the system , so, our so called jury of peers say this one won't get away and convict him because they have not even listened to the evidence, I have seen a man tried and no one said one thing that would incriminate the defendant, but several F,B,I, agents and cops would take the stand one would say I folowed him from 8'00 a.m. until 4'00 p.m. he went to the bank or home and took a nap or something else normal people do every day, and after 14 agents and cops testified and not one said one thing that could possible incriminate the defendant, yet the jury came back with a guilty verdict????
the prosecutor always have some of the court house witinesses who will sit on jrys daily, they don't have any thing else to do and they get paid pennance, and they know if the dont come back with a guilty verdict they wont be chosen again, and there are o many dirty tricks the prosecutors use only a very good attorney can match them. the courts don't allow the defense to use these dirty tricks, or the attorney will be censored,
America has the highest conviction ratio than any country in the world , they also have more people in prison than any other country ,even China or North Korea. prison is a good business for a select few , as they have plenty of slave labor who earns 35 cents per hr, to work in prison industries that is a private corp, and stock is owned by prosecutors.judges, certain Guards, and federal agents,

No, the nature of the crime should not have any effect on a defendants opportunity to plea bargain. Unfortunately, a plea deal is often the only way to either get the whole truth, or get a worse criminal off the streets. The last thing we need to do right now is to tie the hands, that tie the hands of criminals. No one is happy when we have to resort to compromising with criminals, but it beats the alternative.

I spent four months in custody fighting a crime with a maximum sentence of 30 days before I gave up and signed a plea agreement. Don't know how that helps but a previous poster inspired me to share that story.

ya, it is relaxing, lol. I dont think of there's a outstanding answer to that for the time of any respect. in my opinion all our issues on the planet come from the suppressing of organic tendencies. whilst it is achieved the tendencies push their way up and out human beings in twisted and each so often unwell techniques. those human beings in reformatory are basically a results of the unwell and suppressing (judgemental) way of existence they are born, raised and stay in. they are in charge for his or her own movements, yet they are forced to stay in a corrupt international it is likewise unwell. So I dont see any answer to that query. in spite of answer is ever given is purely presented as a manner to maintain our unwell way of existence, the place we throw every physique that revolts against our ridiculous techniques right into a detention center cellular.
