Hugo Chavez is making the needed changes to bring Venezuela into an era of economic prosperity for all. Food and housing programs, public assistance, and low cost fuel for his people. LEAVE CHAVEZ ALONE!!

And the USA won't live him alone, even though he has been elected twice as President by his people.

No, the govt. won't. They were against the Sandinistas in Nicaragua also till "their" Contras were soundly beaten. Funny thing is they have democracy now instead of communism. Imagine that!

It is worrisome that he has complete control of the country for 18 months. He strikes me as someone who is too self important to give up absolute power easily. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm really sheding a tear for poor Hugo. Wow what a guy and as you say, he was elected twice.

Well if he gets his way, he won't have to be elected any more. He'll just maintain his "president for life" status.

As far as the programs he has enacted. Hate to tell you, socialism doesn't work and things will get worse. Right now Venezuela is looking at 2% inflation per month.

If oil prices dip just down to about 50$ a barrel you're hosed because the entire house of cards is built on the oil revenue. Enjoy the good times your having because it does go down from here....

... and Hugo Chavez will not stop taunting the USA. As someone who doesn't live in Venezuela or USA, I'm finding this quite amusing on one hand, but I do realize the seriousness of the situation on the other. I can only draw parallels between the USA's attitude to Chavez and their attitude to Cuba. They hate Cuba because they drove out the Americans in protest to being exploited as a colony, exactly as they themselves drove out the British from their land. But they see no justice in that.

What pro-Chavez blog or website did you find all of these humanitarian efforts by the poor, misaligned and misunderstood philanthropist on?
He's a dirt bag. His people are desolate and he's using his oil to drive a wedge between poor Americans and the government's policy of trying to expose the clown for what he is.
JFK would roll over in his grave if he knew his kinfolk was supporting this dictator - and make no mistake, "dictator" is the correct term.

In the immortal words of your hero Hugo: "The devil's work is never done."

But seriously, Chavez is everything you folks on the left accuse Bush of being...and then some. And when you realize that, you will attack Bush for not doing something to rein him in!

I do believe the U.S. is mishandling (dismantling) the relationship with Venezuela, but Chavez is as harrassing of his political opponents as I think Bush and Cheney try to be here. Lula of Brazil is a better model for Latin America.

I can't speak for the rest of the US, but I despise dictators. I don't give a damn what reason he gives. Hugo Chavez is now a dictator.

he is a dictator plain and simple. all he's doing is using high oil prices to grease the wheels for his socialist revolution. what he's doing may be better for the people than say saudi arabia, but holds no long term potential for his nation's success.

Hugo Chavez is a paranoid dictator. Who lied to his people so that they would give up their democratic government and allow him to be dictator.
