Not really, in the literal sense of the question

The limiting factor is the connectivity of computers. There must be a connection for there to be communication. So artificial intelligence could theoretically gain access to computers that it has a link with, such as those on the Internet. But stand alone computers, which there are a lot of for security reasons, would be immune to any affects. Then of course there are all the embedded systems like cash registers, engine control computers in cars, etc. These would likely be immune as well.

The more important question would be ... "Why would an artificial intelligence computer want to take over the computers of the world?" One must remember that you are talking about intelligence. Why would a computer want to take over the computers. I can see gaining access, but not control. An intelligent mind would want the information that a computer might have on it, but would not necessarily need to have control over it. If it took control, it would not have the remote computer as a source of input. (Remember, the computers that I am assuming you are referring to are computers that people would otherwise be using. If you did not have control over it, you would not be providing input for the artificial intelligent hijacker, so it would be in its best interest not to take control.)

No ..
There are lot of limitations!!!
Thats why new technology like Neural networks came into picture.
AI is static and cant cover our world..
SO no such possibility

well... theres always a way, but as long as we keep useing windows, we are most likely safe, due to the ai would most likely bluescreen, in reality not realy, i mean.... as long as we are smart about what control we give it, and as long as we have the final say. ((ex: hal 9000 = to much power / windows 2000 pro = perfect.... )) lastly, as long as your ae 25 unit is fine, and your computer dosent start asking weird questions when you show it your art... your fine....
