Bush wasn't going to 'get Iraq's oil' persay.

What we are fighting for is a government friendly towards the United States. A government that would allow American oil companies and all related infrastructure 'dibs' on extracting oil from the ground.

I don't have any rough estimates on the worth of Iraq's oil reserves, but it is a substantial amount.

If you'd like to ask more specific questions on this subject shoot me an email at michaelj@siu.edu or AIM me @ krusader3z

This is an area of focus in my studies.

In fact just recently the "democratic" government of Iraq awarded 30 year leases to several major US oil companies, typically the oil companies produce and sell the oil on the world market, the government ( and the people of Iraq) will receive a royalty, the royalty is typically 12 % of the resource value. At current price of $61/barrel the oil company will get $53.68 and the people of Iraq will get $7.32 for each barrel produced.

After Saddam was toppled Bush's oil extraction may have started right away in exchage for what he spent for invading iraq.

How much it worth? Well, to give you an idea Iraq's oil deposits are high grade of high quality oil compared to that of Saudi arabia's.

Because with Iraq under our thumb- the big Oil Company's would have a guaranteed source of relatively inexpensive crude... And it would be worth billions & BILLIONS of dollars to this country... (And remember; Bush comes from a family who made their fortunes from oil).

He was going to have Halliburton build pipelines and handling facilities. Iraq has 1/3 of the world's reserves under it. Lots of bucks.
