It seems like almost everybody is either a democrate our a republican. I was just wondering why so many people take one side our the other. (Im not a Libertarian)

I think you will see more of them but it will not be enough to accomplish what is needed.

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

I just don't see enough people supporting their views.

Couple of reasons. First, a lot of people who call themselves Libertarians are actually NOT Libertarians, they just resent taxes to irrational extremes. REAL Libertarians have something to be proud of.

Second, whether Libertarian, Green, Reform, or any other third party, anyone who is NOT a Republican or Democrat is leaving him/herself out of the line for appointments and favors that come with the ascendency of their patrons to power.

Because the Libertarians are too calm and too rational.

They don't ge people riled up, don't push emotional buttons, and don't get histrionic over deeply divisive issues. So, they don't draw attention to themselves, and as such people don't realize there are other options.

It's amazing (and a little frightening) how many people think a two-party system is constitutionally required. Most don't realize that the only reason the two "major" parties have retained their deadlock is because both have manipulated the political system to ensure that they continue in power.

Our nations issues/problems are too diverse and too many to be split into different sets of opinions and ideals that are supposedly beleived and and adhered to by two, three or four different parties. The system is ridiculous and actually instigates a form of prejudice. There should be no political parties. All candidates for political positions should have a clear set of stances on all issues that he/she would affect and we should vote accordingly for whom we most agree with...Ok...I know that didn't sound like much of an answer to your question...I guess the one that said "those are the only two that ever get elected" was probably the best answer.

I consider myself a Libertarian with a conservative leaning. Since there aren't many Libertarian politicians, moderate republican views fit mine most.

Here's a good Libertarian link.

Libertarians have some good ideas. Like ending the insane drug war.

But most Americans want a progressive gov't, thus, Libertarianism has been rejected.

Libertarians are now irrelevant. We now live in a country that would be considered the most conservative in the world. If you exclude the Theocracies of the Muslim world.

I think most people are still very much in the dark about what libertarians stand for.

The main reason is because they are for the legalization of drugs. If they could moderate that position they could be a force to be reckoned with.

Because those are the only parties that get elected. People take the one that fits best with them.
