OK...so I'm being honest here. I am an occupational therapist, and I am going against your stipulation that you only want answers from actual assistants. However, since you have no answers from assistant's yet, I thought I might offer some insight. Feel free to disregard this message if you feel it comes from an unwanted source.

The COTA's (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants) I work with have many jobs. Their primary duty is to carry out and assist with treatment. By law, they cannot evaluate a patient or plan treatment on their own, but many times they do provide a helping role in this capacity. COTA's do chart reviews and provide treatment as outlined by the registered therapist. The COTA's receive general supervision from a registered therapist through verbal and/or face-to-face contact every few days. The only role a COTA can have in which they are not supervised by a registered therapist is an activity coordinator position at a skilled nursing facility.

Hi my mom has been very sick and has both a occupational therapist and physical therapist. They help with the upper body. The arms. They seem to do little and probably get a great check.
