A long time. But consider the facts. Most people aren't a good judge of emergencies. Some of the most common 911 calls I respond to are this:

My child has been sick for 3 weeks. I have not given them any OTC medications such as tylenol. Tonight his fever went up .02 degrees. I thought it was time to call the ambulance.

I stuck something somewhere in my body that it was not supposed to go. I dont know what else to do so I am calling 911.

I have a little cough that wont go away.

Things like this... You wonder why it takes so long for the people having real emergencies to be seen. This is because the 1 doctor that is on shift in the ER is having to weed out (triage) the emergencies from the people that lack common sense and aren't having emergencies. Not to mention taking various phone calls, directing their staff on what to do with every patient admitted to the ER, running codes on people who are unconscious trying to restore life, or telling Billy Bob his drowsiness is only because he is drunk. Not being rude, but being realistic. You'd be amazed at what people deem emergencies.

Well, I had taken my daughter to the ER on a Saturday night for an infection she had gotten from falling on a piece of glass out side that went into her knee. She already had streaks going up her leg and we sat there and waited for 4 hours. Once they took us back we waited another hour and a half for the doc to come in the first time and a while longer for him to come back in to treat her and release her.

4 hrs with a 2 year old. She fell and busted her head open and we couldn't stop the bleeding. After 4 hrs we went to another hospital about 20 min from the first and they took us right away.

Ten and a half hours while having a miscarriage. Back the next day for six and a half hours for outpatient surgery. All one week after moving to a new city. And they wonder why I hate it here...

6 hours. I ended up getting a bowl off them and hurling in the waiting room. I was sick of running to the toilet.

Around 4 hours waiting for stiches. I have always been told that bleeders go first but that's not true or it wasn't in my case.

I don't know. I was very light headed as a result of losing allot of blood. Eventually I passed out. That got me in fast enough.
