It might sound obvious but slapping on that fake smile can fool most everyone. Is that really what you want to do though? Are you just trying to not look vulnerable by doing this? I understand it's hard to not look put together all the time but it might be harder to get over if you don't let yourself go through the healing and hurting by faking it.

You need to talk to this person and admit to them (aka acknowledge!) that you know you hurt them, but you never meant to. Might not make a difference as first, but it will with time.

Now, if you habitually do this, the only way to quit looking like that is to quit doing it :) In other words, learn from your mistakes, learn and identify what you're doing to cause hurt and then stop it.
