My husband isn't religious, so a church is out of the question. We have been paying $100 an hour and cannot afford it. (not covered through any benefits we have) We are in the Overland Park/Kansas City area.
Thanks!

I know that your husband isn't religious but you could contact your local church and tell them about your dilemma and they might be able to put you in the right direction or give you recommendations for good but reasonably priced counsellors that don't charge a arm and a leg.I wish I could help as I volunteer a couple of hours a fortnight at a place where they provide free counselling but I live in a different country.I hope it all works out for you.Take care.

Contact your local Social Services organizations. Alot of them provide marriage crisis counseling for free or extremely reduced rates.

If that's not available to you, you can still contact the church. You don't have to be religious to have a nuetral party help you sort out your differences. Alot of times they have parish members in the profession volunteer to do the counseling.

And if the religion issue still makes your husband leary, then you can contact your local college. Soon to be grad students would be jumping at the chance to do this pro bono since they need the experience. I understand if you are hesitant to try someone fresh out of the gate, but considering the alternative of not having anyone...this is an option.

I wish you luck honey. Marriage isn't easy, but it's good to see that you and your husband are willing to try and make things work.

If you go through the phone book and find marriage support groups...that way you can find someone that could privately counsel you all...

There are counselors that you could find listed on the Internet ...probably under Kansas City marriage counselors...

Counselors don't have to have a Doctorate of Psychology in Marriage Counseling....and generally they are hidden out there somewhere....

and they usually charge a flat fee for a certain number of sessions...and it is way more economical....

See if that helps....

You could also check with some local non profit agencies...that usually keep marriage counselors on staff and have them available for free...

Your local college sometimes offers counseling on a sliding fee scale sometimes. Check it out.
