The 2002 330i (US models) did not come from the factory with alarm horns.

The body control module sends a signal to the lamp control module when the doors are locked/unlocked in order to flash the lights but the car has to be coded (programmed) to carry out this function.

The horn has to be installed separately. After installation the car has to be retrofitted (programmed) in order for the body module to recognize the horn.

And yes; this can only be done through a BMW dealer : )

You can install the horn yourself, but you need a specialized computer to reprogram the car to flash the lights and sound the horn (used for the alarm).

Or course the dealer can do it, but good independent BMW service shops might have the computer as well. I know of one independent in my area who has a master BMW tech on staff and equipment that is either as good, or better than what the dealers have. So, just ask around.

It takes about 5 minutes to program, but dealers usually charge around 1/2 to do the programming. If they're nice, they might do it for free cuz it's so easy.
