I have an old memory from High School trying to weasel it's way out for me to tell you Grendel is related to Cain, you know Cain and Able, that guy marked by God as a murderer.

I do not think there is any reference per say that Grendel is a descendant of Cain in the Beowulf story ittself, but I do have this memory left over from Mrs. Barberi's 10th Grade English Lit Class.

Grendel's mother is one of three antagonists (along with Grendel and the dragon) in the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf (c. between 700-1000 AD); she is never given a name in the text.

His mom...Seriously, I am not joking. Beowulf fights Grendel, then Grendels mom.

However, the original passage of Beowulf in Old English states that he was born from the cloth of evil, and makes several devil/Satan references.

We are still working to get a full original and authentic manuscript of Beowulf. The Norse story of Beowulf was Christianized by the Christian Friers long after its origin. They did a cut and paste that destroyed truth for profit.

I'll offer this much. An excerpt, and an answer.

BEOWULF'S PRAYER BEFORE MEETING THE WYRM

O one-eyed Odin, honor me
with your skill in killing, crazed swordplay,
stalwart swinging of the sword's brightness,
clean cutting, cleavering through;
grant Naegling never a need's failure,
the old iron, ancient and trustworthy,
the bearer of battles, beater of foemen,
thorough of threat as Thor's hammer;
to my hearthwarders, give hearts of oak.
for liegemen loyally will my load lighten,
when fighting the foeman. fire-breathing and fierce--
and will strengthen his stamina, my sturdy Wiglaf,
with their bold boasts, their brave chanting,
