i delivered both of my children while my obgyn was in the bahamas or hawaii. the other doctors that were on call were great though, in illinois the southern part anyways doesnt have very many ob doctors anyways so i had already seen them once at checkups just incase this would happen. and it turned out that both of my children were delivered by 2 diffrent obs. and anyways you really dont see them all that much during the whole delivery process all they are really there for is to catch the baby all the nurses do the most of the work. my 2 obs were only in the room long for probably maybe 15 min. then they were gone. but yeah its okay to have another ob deliver.

well just so you know- most women don't have their OBGYN deliver their baby. You always get the dr who is on-call... so the chances of your dr delivering your baby are slim anyways.. and chances are you'll go past your due date anyways. And while you are in labor your OB wont be there anyways- you'll just be dealing with the nurses who you dont know- and who change when the shifts change-- your ob is only there right when you actually deliver the baby-- you might be in labor for 16 hours and your ob will only be there for 20 minutes... they usually don't come in until after you've started pushing...

There are only three doctors that are part of my OB/GYN's practice. They all try to deliver their patients' babies themselves, but if "your" doctor is unavailable, one of the other two will do the job. So they make a point of having you see one or both of the other docs for a prenatal visit or two just so you can avoid the situation you describe.

I like my OB, but I would have been fine with either of the other two docs. And, you know, the nurses are with you for much more time, and you don't know ANY of them before you go in. Plus, they change every time a shift changes, but it still works out OK.

You'll be fine.

i went to a lil clinic during my pregnancy and none of those obgyn or midwives do the actual delivery so i had no idea who would walk into my labor room, not to mention I went to the Hospital at 3 am. Luckly i had a great dr, so great infact that i'm seeing him instead of the clinic for all my checkups for now on. He just lighten the whole room btwn contractions. My mother-in-law was listening thru the door and she loved him too.

At least yours is only leaving from the 14th to the 18th. Mine is gone from the 15 to the 25 AND he was supposed to induce me on the 15th, now I have to wait until the 26th! Don't you just love doctors?

Usually when doctors go on vacation they always have someone else filling in for them and usually this is someone that you have seen. My advice to you is to tell your doctor that you would feel more comfortable meeting the on-call doctor.

you could ask your dr if she can recommend someone she knows who could take her place as your OBGYN..or ask her when she'll be back from ger vacation ...: )
