It seems to me that tonight the one young girl purposely answered incorrectly in hopes that she would be called on to "save" the contestant and he would lose.

Also, they young boy at the end of the show tonight indicated he wasnt sure about his answer but yet he pulled an incredibly difficult answer out of thin air.

I think the kids are provided with answers prior to taping and they are encouraged to try to make the contestants lose.

Tootsie - the show you are speaking of was "$64,000 Question". The movie "Quiz Show" was based on that scandal.

Oooh conspiracy theories.

It was ridiculous to guess 89 on cups in five and a half gallons.

It was ridiculous to think an accountant needed help with a question like that.

As for the last question, it was for 125,000 dollars. I would not have been sure of it either if I knew the guy could lose 150,000 dollars if I were wrong.

Still the guy was stupid not to take a health question being as he had the cheat and the boy knew health as well, and he did not. If he thought he would walk the prudent man would take the riskier question with the boy there as his back up.

Yeah I think it is fixed because some of the things that the fifth graders are learning are stuff that I'm learning now in high school, and I know history very well and there was one question about who was the first president to be impeachment. I knew it was Andrew Johnson but I had to think about it for a while and the way those kids answered so quickly. I seems fixed because I know they are not prodigies or have photogenic memories.

Funny this should come up. My son just so happens to be in
fifth grade this year. He is in the GATE program but fifth none the less. His math skill is at 17yrs. 3 mos. he is 11yrs. 1 month. His reading is off the chart as well. I look at his regular homework and they are doing Algebra in fifth grade. I dont recall that until 8th and that was for the honor roll kids. If I was in 5th grade at his school Id be in trouble. I have three years of college with a major in science and the stuff he brings home challenges me. 5th grade now is not what it was when we were kids. Heck kindergarten is no longer a social thing. My son had a list of 20 words he had to recognize and spell by the end of the year. Im glad I got out when I did haha. Fixed? Id say no. Peace out.....

I don't think fixed but some shows do give a list of questions beforehand. They ask some from the list. If the kids studied the list they should do good.

I don't think they are prompted. I have a 2nd grader, and he's able to answer many of the questions - even the higher grade ones. My wife teaches 5th grade, and the questions are indeed inline with what they teach.

I think the contestants are probably picked because they don't do well. Some of the questions they miss are so elementary, I can't believe they don't get them. (area of a triangle, come on)

Yes, they obviously edit laughter from the children to fit into other areas of the show. Most gameshows are fixed anyway.

Back in the50's there was a game show called Quiz Show and it was rigged. Ever since then I think that most of them are rigged.

One of my favorite revenge memories dates back to when I was in fifth grade, taking an IQ test. I even got questions correct that the teacher, I disliked, did not know. I scored higher than her. lol.

Anyway, they are probably given the answers.

haven't seen that show that much.

what i did see, i answered about half of their Q's right. one of my patient's mom's is a 5th grade teacher & she says those kids are not typical 5th graders. she doesn't teach that material to her kids.

i wonder if those kids are top of high level scorers in their schools.
