Because greediness still exists today. There are few people across this world who aid those who need money more than anything as it's a life or death situation. Yet wealthy people sometimes refuse to know the truth and see for themselves what it's like to live in poverty. Some may even forget. Other's may help, it all depends what money does to you.

Money has destroyed lives, caused plenty of greed and selfishness. If people were to witness what living in poor situations was, there would be a better understanding and helping for those less fortunate.

That is so true! Those with the billions should be helping in this world. Oprah, all though I do not care for her that much, has set a wonderful example with the academy she built and furnished for the South African female children. These wonderful little girls can now receive schooling and also live in a warm home with good clothes and food. What a wonderful thing! Many of the other Billionaires should follow her lead!

As Karl Marx would say:

The capitalists control all the money!!

Power Conflict Theorists:

The rich and the elite control the money, and they want to keep exclusive control over what they have, and what they need. They don't want to share the power with a whole bunch of other people that they dont necessarily care about, e.g. the starving kids and homeless people

Ethics People (I forget the formal titles):

Those that are starving and homeless have developed from cultures that do not hold the same values as those in developed countries. They have lived and grown up in environments where laziness is accepted, and they do not accept capitalist ideas

Personally I agree with Marx.
Dont flame me for the last comment!!!

Note to hesitant, who posted above me:

So, if people are provided these "incentives" as you say, in the form of money, are actors and athletes achieving so much and contributing so much to our lives? Do those soccer players in England, Spain, and Italy really deserve the $300 million a year contracts that they receive? Think about it. Money does not denote value to society.

There are many homeless people who want to be homeless. I have witnessed many who milk the system, or don't want the responsibility to hold a job, pay bills, etc. They even hold annual hobo meetings.
Don't blame the billionaires. You can help the homeless all you can with money, food, housing, et al. Until the heart has changed, their attitude won't.

Regardless of the number of billionaires in the world, there will always be homeless and hungry people. I don't see the connection either.

Because people are selfish and want to buy nice things for themselves.

I think if I had a billion dollars, rather than buying some nice things and donating all the rest to the poor, I would probably donate it all to the poor, due to the fact that I'm fine the way I am now (although I'm not satisfied and would of course want many things, I am still fine enough to have a roof under my head and food on my table).

Have you looked at the financial contributions to charity that the top two have gave? You reveal your naivety trough this question. Most of their worth is paper or based on market valuations of shares of companies. They don't have that all in cash. Besides, should they toil and use their extraordinary brain power to innovate and succeed, in turn making the lives better for countless other people. only to give it all away and live on 50k a year?

It is the incentive provided by these rewards that drives them to produce so much, which enrich all of our lives in immeasurable ways.

because the billionaires wont share the money with the homeless because some of those billionaires think they are "too good" for that.

billionaires exist because of inequality.

Its not their fault people are starving and homeless.

They might not be doing much to rectify it, but people have been homeless and starving sense time began.

Well, that's unfortunately true. My goal in life is to make a lot of money. But not for my own sake. Well, of course I'm going to buy myself my wants and needs. But I don't need some giant mansion. Or a mansion at all. But anyways I would love to do dozens of things to help people. And stop animal cruelty and all the other things I stand for. ;P
