Historically, America was created by people who quit their own countries, often hating or disliking them for various reasons. They were all refugees, who had no choice but to leave their own countries.

Naturally, all those people who migrated to America had no love lost for their own countries of origins and rushed to America since it was the land of the free.

There was nothing these earlier immigrants wanted more than to forget their parent countries and embrace this new found land of theirs where they could grow as rich as they wanted to, practice whatever faith they wanted to, and live the lifestyle which they could never hope to live in their home countries.

As generations progressed, this shared sentiment grew into a fundamental rejection of anything that was not American, until the people of modern America are "trained" to believe that America is the greatest and the best, and anything and everything else in the world is not worth respecting. You see that attitude in the international politics played by America don't you?

What do you can a person who speaks 3 languages - A trilingual. 2 languages - A bilingual. 1 language - An American.

I agree with you, but still not all Americans are like that, some of them are very nice.

But I think that is a general rule with all racial groups, when you are in a situation they need something from you, like a bank account, selling you a car, selling you something, for customer service purposes they have to be nice, but when you are in a situation where you want something from them like a job, or an immigration documents, etc. Some will treat you like crap. I think that is a human nature people treat other bad when they feel in control. And they happened in every country by the way. I m sure people in your country do the same.

As a Native American the foundation for the rude treatment from ALL foreigners has been traced to the protestant refugees that came here from europe. since they were treated badly they felt they could treat others as they have been treated in their country. The mexicans also treated the peruvian indians badly and made them slaves. Orientals have always had an attitude problem. the zulu tribe was made slaves by european catholics and protestant. the butu and nairobi tribes were at war with each other---I can continue this but.....

If you pay attention we tend to treat each other like dirt too.

Americans visiting other countries tend to have money, and people who tend to have money tend to think they're better than everyone else.

But we are not all like that. Have you ever heard that "the eyes are the projectors of the soul"? Maybe if you change your expectations you will meet a nice American.

Because they view their culture as superior.
That's very true, by the way.
You see, hear and read about people telling foreigners to "go home", "go fix your country instead of crowding up ours", etc. but when they encounter cold treatment in Japan, they become outraged.
They also become irate when a foreigner residing in the U.S. is struggling with his English (i.e. - Geno's Cheesesteaks in Philadelphia), but they think the Parisians are arrogant for refusing to speak in English.

Because some Americans are selfish and self centered. They think that they are all High and Mighty and deserve anything that they get.

I'm American but I don't treat anyone different. We are all human and I think that it's rude that some Americans can treat anyone rudely.

People should treat other people the way they want to be treated.

I don't know. I think this depends on what are you live in. I grew up in Californai and for the most part everyone where I lived tried to celebrate diversity and were very culturally aware becuase I lived in an area where whites were the minority. Everybody tried to learn a little spanish, a little hmong, a little whatever.

Personally I like finding out different ways of life and am thankful for things like chinese food, mexican food, indian food, etc.

Unfortunatley I moved to Wisconsin to a smaller town and people here call anyone looking of Spanish descent an "illegal" (which they're not) and snicker when they hear people talking Spanish or Hmong. They act disgusted and like these people invaded their country. It makes me very sad.

So in summary, not everyone is like that it depends on how and where you were raised.

I find that foreigners treat Americans like dirt.
They come in my store refuse to acknowledge me, and expect everything for free.

Because we are a bunch of hippocritical, pig headed, narrow minded assholes. We watch Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC for our news, we are told by morons, democrat and republican what and how we need to think, All arabs are terrorists, the french are weenies, Israel is right, and Canadians are just a little behind us. Maybe we all need to wake up and look around the world and to be a little more considerate of others, and respectfull of others.

Please realize that not all Americans are like that... there certainly are many, and most are oblivious to the history and current events of other countries... but not every American is an ignorant and hateful.

And for those that are... well, as I said, they are ignorant. And self-centered.
