I have a ten gallon I would like to make a saltwater. Could put a couple of clown fish in and a star fish of something? And how many fish?

For a 10 gallon tank you're looking at two small fish.

I wouldn't put a starfish in with clown fish in a tank that small because clown fish are quite territorial and are likely to pester the starfish quite a bit.

If this is your first saltwater tank I would suggest sticking to one small inexpensive gobi until you are sure you have everything running right.

Good luck

I've done two ocellaris clowns in a 10 gallon, but somewhat unusual circumstances. When I had my set-up it was at a university where I taught and the room (all tropical fish) was kept at a high enough temperature that it kept the tanks up around 78o - no heaters needed and little fluctuation in temperature - most people don't have this luxury.

You'd have to watch the temperature and water quality very closely to pull this off in a 10 gallon - a 20 or 30 would be better. Maybe you could insulate the tank if you live somewhere where there are warm/cold seasons.

The starfish is out - most need a 75-100 gallon mature tank to survive. You could try some hermit crabs (blue-legged or scarlet) and Astrea or Nassarius snails.

A ten gallon salt water aquarium can be done. But, it's strictly an endeavor to be undertaken by an expert aquarist with a lot of time to do maintenance.I've been keeping fish for over 50 years and it would be too difficult for me. If you decide to try it do a lot of research before actually beginning. Good luck.----PeeTee
