is it just another illegal piece of the "Patriot" Act showing it's ugly head or is it both?

It's an interesting scandal giving us another look into the sordid world of the Bush White House. I'm enjoying it.

Neither.

The US Attorneys that were fired (or asked to leaving, dependin who is telling the story) would not be in any position to challenge a potential coup. They only handle federal prosecutions at the district court level.

The best argument in support of an ulterior motive is that the "firings" occured shortly after Congress changed the laws regarding interim appointments for replacements. Prior to the change, interim appointments were for a very limited period of time.

After the change, the so-called temporary appointments were actually indefinitely long. So, freeing up those slots allowed for "interim" appointments which would never be subject to Senate approval. But that's just coincidence, right?.

He fired them for "job performance issues"...Lol.

They were all very competent U.S. Attorneys; especially Carol Lam from the Southern District of California.

Her office successfully prosecuted Repugnican crony Duke Cunningham. Thereafter, she was asked to resign...

Bush has abused his position as president for the last six years; I can't wait for 2008.

Too bad the President could not also fire the Prosecutor who tried to railroad the College Kids. Or the one who used a Drug Runner from Mexico to testify that the Border Patrolmen shot at him. The Civil Servants, who risked their Lives are in Jail, and the Drug Dealer is back in Business. All thanks to a crooked, Left Wing Democrat Prosecutor.

You are a Moron!! When Clinton got in he fired ALL the prosecuters...Bush was planning to be more bi-partisan..and keep firings of Dems to a minimum....for that you can call him naive.
