I'm running Windows XP. I'd like to know the settings that I have to use to get my laptop to mirror the image on the screen out to my external monitor using the VGA out.

Connect a remote monitor.
Press and hold the FN (function) key in the lower left corner of your keyboard, and the F8 Key (it's usually the F8 key--look for one that has something that looks like a monitor on it. It should be in blue or matching the color of your FN key).

The F8 key usually has 3 modes. Press it once (along with the FN key) to switch video to external monitor only, press it again to switch to your laptop's display only, press it again for display on both the external monitor and your laptop.

Very easy.
You link up a monitor, then right click on your laptop's desktop, select Properties -> Settings -> Advanced and select from the options found to mirror it!

There are few options there, you can try it also.

Enjoy!

On most laptops you can just close your laptop and connect the external and then open it up again.
