Well, let's see what we know and go from there:
1- He was a bomber aircrew member, specifically a tail-gunner. Do you now which aircraft? It would be something like: "Stirling", "Wellington", "Halifax", "Lancaster". This will drive you to aircrew associations formed of guys who crewed those planes. I would also try Aerial Gunners associations.
2- Was he a Brit, Commonwealth, or American? That will also help, as you can then narrow the likely squadron(s).
3- Do you know when he served?
4- Was he killed or wounded in action?
The link I found should be able to get you started. The RAF, and Brits in general, are VERY interested in their WW2 history. Good luck. If I can assist you at all please PM me.

It would probably help if you knew what division or air group he was in. A lot of people served in the RAF, so a complete listing is unlikely. But, if you were to search by division, you might have a better time at it.

Alternatively, if he was a tail bomber, he would have been on a specific bomber. If you knew the specific bomber's name, that would help as well. You could search for that bomber and try to find a crew list for that bomber. For example, the most famous bomber was the Memphis Belle.

There are many RAF bases as you know in the UK. As an American I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath in Brandon Suffolk from 1970-72. I would try to contact RAF Mildenhall in the town of Mildenhall UK. Lakenheath was a "carbon copy" of Mildenhall to prevent Mildenhall from being bombed during the Seige of Britian. Mildenhall is also in Suffolk County. The British RAF Laison was stationed at Lakenheath at the time I was there, but I'd contact Mildenhall first. Good luck.

It is not complete but the RAFA lists RAF bases and persons who served at them on their site.By the way I think you mean tail gunner on a bomber.

Best place is to start with the RAFA, (Royal Air Force Assosiation) then try. RAF Records Office, Ministry of Defence, Whitehall. London. You may be asked for his full name/DOB/ Service No/ Squadron/ Rank. Hope that helps.

Gday. There is no on-line consolidated list that you can 'look-up'. The best I can offer is the following link which gives you details of where you can write to requesting the record of your relative. I suspect that you will do better if you give them as much detail as you can - such as date of birth and any details of his service. Good luck.
