Yes i have already thought of this. No civilization will (or has) live forever. Based on our laws and amendments there is a loop, and therefore the downfall of america. I predict about 200 more years or less and america will crumble.

Rome was constantly at war, which paved its way for its expansion. Eventually, they overextended themselves and could not keep up with the demands their empire demanded.

Greece consisted of too many city-states with each wanting to keep their own autonomy. Athens emerged not as a hegemon, but as a ruler of an empire, creating garrisons on other πολεις (city-states) and thus clearly disturbing the management of that polis' local affairs.

If we do go by what happened to Rome and Greece, then surely yes the influence of the USA is waning. If indeed a war on Iran is planned with a potential attack on North Korea, the already stretched military would get further extended prompting more pressure on the economy and its already immensely accumulated debt.

So the USA is like Rome at war and extending its empire. It's like Athens where it intervenes in a country's local affairs.

My theory says yes...every civilization has a lifespan/cycle...I postulate that the US reached its zenith in the 20th century and is now declining...if it survives this decline, it may come back and be on top again (witness Rome which was first a Republic, then declined and then came back as an Empire, then declined and some say revived in the form of the Papacy). Egypt did similar things from dynasty to dynasty, Old, Middle and New Kingdoms.

Several measures to use on the US--is it a major world creditor or debtor, can it afford to support/feed its people, is the quality of its leaders constant or declining, is its population largely educated and competitive with the world, what levels of corruption does it have, does it continue to innovate, does it lead in areas of quality of life, economic production, invention and scientific development?

I maintain that while we spend more on education, we are educating fewer and those that we educate are not as well educated; we are now the worlds major debtor; we are more and more dependent on foreign products; our poor classes are growing, the middle class shrinking and wealth concentrating at the top of the economic pyramid; the quality of our leaders is declining (from lousy Presidents to a Congress that is largely do nothing while appearing to be busy and while feathering their individual nests while gorging themselves at the public trough); we are not developing new products like we used to and many we invented aren't even made here anymore; we suffer a shortage of scientists and mathematicians; we suffer grade inflation and pass students out of our mandatory education system that cannot read, write or speak properly; good skilled jobs go overseas, while the growth in the job market seems to be in the "burger flipping" industries. Real wages for most Americans have been largely stagnant when to you take these factors into consideration. Medical care is virtually not obtainable to those who have no health benefits. We are fast approaching that point when we slip from first world superpower to something less.

Greece was never destroyed, nor was Rome. The Aztec didn't have nuclear bombs did they? It's 2007 ... we have nuclear bombs, and if the government needs to use them, I'm sure they will.

All empires collapse from within. The USA is already on the way with foreign wars it can't win and can't afford. Debts to other countries like China that it can't repay. A huge underclass of resentful and ill-educated citizens and politicians who are corrupt and divorced from reality.

Never. In today's world, nations no longer rely on themselves to grow anymore. Look at the close relationship between the US and other countries. We are inter-dependent now. If one guy falls, all the other guys will fall with him, so, no, UNLESS, the entire human civilization declines.

Nothing will be destroyed, but things will change, as they always do. No one can say with certainty when the changes will finalize.
