To me... that is the keyword here... to me.

Democracy to me is when each person's vote has equal power and authority. I am a believer in a Republic which some would argue is not a pure democracy. I believe in a Republic because I think the majority of ppl are busy with their lives and do not have the time to examine all the aspects of laws on society. That is why we have representatives dedicate their lives to do this for us.

What I do not like is the electoral college. When we vote for these representatives, all our votes should be heard. IE, Al Gore won the majority of the popular vote in 2000, yet he was not elected president because of the electoral college.

Democracy is mob rule -- might makes right.

Majority rules. The larger group gets to force the smaller group to conform. That's the core principle of democracy.

The idea that everyone gets a voice and a vote is nice, but in reality, those in the minority get trampled on by the mob unless there is some overriding authority (such as a Charter or Constitution) that limits how much the majority can do.
