My 9-year-old cousin just spent $12 on one and "NEEDS" to know before school tomorrow. Haha.

Don't be jerks, just tell me how the kids wear them.

I'm not an American, and mind your own business.

right or left does not matter but most favor the right. You want the chain to go from the belt loop closest to your right front pocket to the back pocket where you keep the wallet. Not too long as to get stuck in your chair, not to short as it looks like a weird belt.

I don't think I would worry about it too much as long as the wallet is empty. Wallet chains advertise a wallet and its location. They make good handles for grabbing a wallet. Usually belt loops are no match for a thief. If it's the wrong style, then he is independent and strong. If it's the right style then he is following the crowd. Either way won't hurt if he can pull off the look and attitude.

By the way, I wore one as an augmentation to the way I normally wear a wallet. It might not stop a thief, but it would slow him down and alert me to his actions. I did not wear it obviously. It was worn under a jacket.

Then your cousin is going to a sh!tty-@*** school. Thank the Lib-tards for yet another disaster - they ruined the education system in this once great country.
