for reasons other than just control the pet population here is a good reason. larger dog breeds like Sheperds have a greater chance of getting mammary gland cancer which comes quick and is pretty fatal

You are so right and it is very beneficial to your pet's health to have them spayed or nutered...not only that my mom had a female Chow that had cysts on her ovaries and if she had not had her spayed that could easily have turned into ovarian cancer...
I had no choice..I had already gotten my male and female cats spayed and neutered when the two kittens, littermates, came along...well the female was starting to go into her first heat at about 7 months and the male was of course responding and I thought hella no four cats is more than enough! LOL So all my pets including my Golden retreiver Sunshine, are fixed...Sunshine was fixed before I got her so at least I did not have to worry about that! Do not need more animals running round for sure!
Great question hon!

My two cats and my dog are from the RSPCA. As a condition of sale, they weren't allowed to leave the RSPCA until they had been sterilised. I know that it was the best thing for them because a) my cats don't wander or fight or sing and b) when next doors dog is on heat, my dog doesn't go as beserk as he would if he wasn't sterilized.

I have only owned one animal that I did not spay or nueter. It does keep the population down (think of all the animals euthenized everyday becasue they do not have a home) it helps calm them down, and has many other health benefits.

Yea I do. In Colorado ferrets must be spayed or neutered when you buy them.
