How do I fix it? How much on an average does it cost? I can get my clutch to the floor with no problem but the gear shift moves all over the place with no way to put it in gear. It's just super loose.

How do I fix the linkage? Do I work from the bottom or the top?

It sounds like its the Transmission shift linkage. Local parts stores should carry this part. Grab a friend and have one shift the car (while the engine is not running) and the other looking at the linkage on the tranny. If the linkage on the tranny is not moving then the you will need a new shift linkage. I'm not that familiar with Neon's so I dont know if there is 2 linkages or just 1. (On my Grand Am there was 2). Or it could be the bushings on the linkage ends, that would require removing the shifter.

If I remember correctly, I bought one for a Grand Am about 8 years ago and it ran around $80.00.

Hope that helps

i own a repair shop and its the linkage that has come off of it or broken ,these little cars do this a lot ,especially on the standard shift ones,it will cost around 75 bucks to repair this with a good used piece from a good junk yard and that's it,it shouldn't cost anything over that, and it you get lucky, and just the pin has fallen out of it,it may only cost around 20 bucks to repair it,good luck with it,don't worry ,you wont go broke on repairing it this time,i hope this helps.

sounds like the shifter linkage has come apart maybe the bolt fell off of it and it's not connected underneath your car. it should be simple to fix, not unless it's broken.

if the clutch pedal feel normal, the problem is inside the transmission. it involve taking the transmission apart. the common problem on Neon is the clutch slave cylinder or clutch mastercylinder is leaking internal

asserting your snatch "has dropped" could no longer likely furnish particularly some suggestions. whether, it particularly is a situation with the two the grasp or slave cylinder. try bleeding the snatch.
