WASHINGTON - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich acknowledged he was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity.

What a joke. That's the definition of hypocritical. He has alot of nerve asking us not to look at him as a hypocrite.

There's no comparison to the crimes of the Clinton's . Monica was one tiny mark against Bill Clinton compared to the CRIMES both he & Hillary racked up in their shadowey past & present - ranging from intimidating witnesses ; rape; sexual abuse ; money laundering ; Lying to Congress ; Lying under oath . Don't forget Hillary Clinton , the 1st First Lady to be indicted ; illegal campaign contributions , & by foreigners , as well ; compromising national security ; tampering with evidence ; shredding evidence ; Sending Sandy Burger to steal classified documents and make them disappear . It's not JUST INFIDELITY with the Clintons ..People are not perfect and one slip in a marriage is not a career in criminal activity . It's not to be condoned - but it does NOT make you a felon . The Clinton's have found ways to send their accomplices to prison..while they are loose on society .

If it looks like a hypocrite, sounds like a hypocrite, then.......

A vote for Newt is a vote for hypocrisy.

Shocked and stunned. Never been more surprised since the last time I woke up and found I was awake.

So, if you are republican you can squander trillions of dollars on a war you started on lies, getting thousands of Americans killed for your political convenience and it doesn't rate a cross word, but if you are a democrat all it takes is a 'sexual act' to have the opposition baying like rabid dogs?

Nope, no surprises here.

Not surprising at all.

There have been scandals worse that this with our politicians since the days of our foundings fathers. Most of it is not generally known. Do some research and you will be further shocked, surprised and sometimes disgusted.

At least he isn't lying about it when the media asked him, unlike someone else.

When you're quoted to say "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" and then later found you did, it makes people wonder what else you could be lying about.
