First, get the "mini" O.B. version for the first time. It's a bit easier if there's a bit of menstrual flow because it acts as a lubricant and it's a bit easier to slide it in without it hurting. Don't worry about getting your finger a bit bloody. You can wash up afterwards. Like the people above said already, you need to relax the muscles. The very first time may be a bit uncomfortable and the tampon has to be pretty far in so that you cannot feel it when you stand up straight. If you feel it when you stand up, it's not in far enough. There's a set of muscles that the tampon has to pass through so that it's positioned in front of the cervix. Usually half a finger's length does the trick. It takes a bit of practice.
Anyway... just get up from the loo and while you're still in a squatting position, turn the string of the tampon a little so that your finger can fit at the bottom. Don't worry about the string. Just let it hang there. Then insert the tampon. You may have to try it a couple of times until you get it in the right position at the right depth. Have a look at the instructions. Again, when it's inserted properly, you shouldn't feel a thing and let the string hang out.

It takes practice. I think I tried 3 times before I got it in to where I didn't feel it.

I prefer the one leg on the toilet/bathtub/stool method. You have to aim in a way. Sometimes it's easiest to start using tampons without applicators. I know this may seem gross, but it may be easier until you get the hang of it.

I use applicators myself, and just put it in a good ways. I make sure that it's going in smoothly, as this helps me know it's going in the right direction. Yes, it can get caught along the way if put in at an angle. It won't stay stuck, but it won't feel too good. After I know it's at the right angle and in a good ways, I push the applicator up and cross my fingers that I did it right. Even now, after using tampons for 11 years, I still sometimes have to redo it.

there are a few things you can do. first relax. you can try to put some vasiline on the tip so it glides in better. but dont cover the whole tampon because you want the tampon to absorb liquid. another thing is to stand straight up went putting in. if you bend over your insides will tilt a little and making it harder to go in. try to position your body in different ways to find a more comfortable way of it going in. also one big one that helped me is using kotex tampons are the absolute best for me. any of the paper tampons like tampex and other crap like those dont have any grip to them. try the kotex regular absorbency ones first and if you bleed heavy then move onto the bigger ones when needed. hope it helps. april

not to be rude but is this your first time? how old are you. If it's your first time using a tampon you might want to try the smaller ( light flow) kind There's directions in the box to tell you how to do it. I cant really explain it by writing it down is there someone there that can help you?

You may need to wait until you are older. Some girls are just smaller or tighter down there than others are and if that is the case you won't be able to get a tampon in until you have had your first GYN visit.

Ok... Try using the preteen ones, if you arent already.
Sometimes it can take a while to get one in the first few times of using them.
~If you try for too many times in a row, you may get kinda sore.
~If you have a hand held mirror, you can see where it goes, this might help.
~Do N O T use vaseline if somebody suggests this to you. Vaseline can and will cause infections.

~♥~ A tiny little bit of KY will help. Talk to your mom or a pharmasist about this.

ok first if your nervous it will make it all harder. relax. then put one leg up on like a toilet seat or something to give you more room and to make it easier for the tampon to go in since it wont go in. then put it in the opening and push not too hard though up and very slightly back. i hope this helps.

Calm down!! You need to relax your body!!
I made mistakes too...
Are you taking the tubes out when you have it in?? That was my mistake.. I didn't know I had to take the tubes out...
Read the instructions that come in the box!! And ask your mother... She can help you... I know it's embarrassing...
It helps if you put one leg on the toilet... But relax, or else it will hurt. ...
Make sure when you get it in you can't feel it. If you can, and its uncomfortable... take it out and use a new one...
Good Luck

Maybe she is too embarrased to ask her mom. I was.
I could never get a tampon in either, and when I did it wouldn't go in all the way and it hurt. It also took me like 2 hours to get it out. Hence I don't use them.

Try relaxing your muscles.
