Here's a great place to get started as far as COBOL is concerned and online:

The COBOL2002 standard supports Unicode, XML generation and parsing, calling conventions to/from non-COBOL languages such as C, and support for execution within framework environments such as Microsoft's .NET and Java (including COBOL instantiated as EJBs). However, no vendor has yet produced a completely conforming compiler.

I haven't worked in COBOL since 1977 - 30 years. I can't believe it's still being used! It was almost unusable at that time, being very rigid, even in the days of keypunched cards and card readers. I'm sorry I can't answer your question but I'm starring it and hope you will receive a helpful answer.
