Carlisle. How do you say it?

I was reading the novels TWILIGHT and NEW MOON by Stephanie Meyer, and my friend and I have a disagreement. She says the way to say Carlisle is like this: 'Car-lease'. I say like this: 'Car-lyle'. Which one of us is right? Or are we both wrong?

PLEASE help!!

I have never heard it pronounced like your friend claims... and since Carlyle was my maiden name, I've heard it butchered a million different ways. LOL...

My vote is with you.

You are right. If you want to be right in a spelling competition, too, make it "pronunciation", even though the verb is "to pronounce".

"Carl"- "isle." You're right. "Car-lease" would be Carlise, or Carlisse, or Carlese, and is a girl's name.
