Try the 70s classics: The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, and Amytiville Horror. These are good 'ole fashion ghost / satan movies. For effects, watch 'em in the dark. Better yet, wait for a rainy night, hopefully with thunder and lightning.

I think what one person finds "scary" maybe not be scary to another. For instance disturbing movies scare me more than gore and horror flicks. Gummo, Sick, and some movie about Meth with Val Kilmer in it, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Alien all scared me s***less. My huz likes vampire and blood and gore movies but I think they are silly for the most part.

All of the "Saw" movies, "The Ring" I and II, "The Hills Have Eyes" is decent, Gothika, Silent Hill, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it also depends if you want psychological thriller or gory type. My husband and I are big scary movie fans, well big movie fans in general, but his favorite is The Ring. I really like all kinds but the biggest waste of my time was the so-called scary flick "Pulse" story line was so blah! Have fun being scared!

I agree on looking up classic horror films. Too many in this day and age are based on blood and gore, not to truly scare. Although Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning was pretty messed up and creeped me out.

i have the same problem i laugh through most "scary" movies such as hostel yeah that was like comedy of the year for me anyway I like
-13 ghosts
-and the new amityville horror
maybe i was just in a scardy cat mood though. and the lion in jumanji is absolutely terrifying to me for some reason.
-ghosts are usually scarier to me than killers they usually take the killer movies to far

Have u seen Silent Hill. Its a twist of a horror film. I enjoyed it.

Hope u all will. The movie is based in someplace in Wva. Where a woman's daughter can't remember nothing from her past. So her mother takes her there. This movie is like jacobs ladder leaves u guessin I'm going to have to watch it a second time.

Go vintage!
Try "The Changeling", or "The Haunting"---Go even further back and try "Cat People (1942), or "The Body Snatcher" (1945)--subtle horror, with good film-making! They'll stay in your memory.
It ain't all blood, y'know!

Well, most scary movies now-a-days are all lame, they've lost their originality.

But, I'd suggest 'Descent'. It's not just the "jump up in your face" scary. It incorporates claustrophobia, and a lot more.

Can't really explain it, you just have to see it.
