Is it possible to engineer a backlight in the gameboy original, or is there any wormlight-like accessories for it? i've seen a color screen mod, but im curious of a backlight.

When I still had a gameboy original, I also had an accessory for it - it was a square magnifying class you hooked to the case, so you'd see the screen through it and it'd be bigger. It also had in-built, battery operated lights you could turn on of desired.

Not sure if it'd still be available, or where, though - check eBay and Amazon. I don't remember what it was called, but I know it wasn't a Nintendo product.

There is no backlight for the original gameboy (Hey it's a brick as it is)

There were wormlights and various magnifiers and lights available. You can probably get them on ebay or at a second hand store.
