Just a note my boss has told me I do an awesome job at work ...I got a job in October and they were offering 10.00 to be an office assistant, I got them to go to 11.00 because I was at 12.00 at my last job and they agreed to raise me to 12.00 in two months. Well, my kids have been sick a lot lately and I have been late to work a lot and missed some work. My boss and I had a talk and we agreed for me to start at a later time so I wouldn't miss so much work. He said if I went to work for two weeks straight I would get a raise. Well today he told me they wanted me to go for two months without being late and they would probably raise me 50 cents!! The other lady that works there has worked there for about 10 months and does the same thing as I do and makes 14.00 an hour. I have been there for 5 months and make 12.00. So by the time I my two months is up I will have been there for 7 months making 12.50? Don't you think by the time I hit 10 months like her I should make the same amount

maybe she made more at her last job.. think about it:

you said it yourself...you got a break because of your salary history so maybe hers was better and she may have more experience so even if you two are doing the same things, she may have more years on you.

you never know other people's situation so just ask yourself the question: "do they pay me enough to do what i do as well as i do it?" because at the end of the day, someone is always making more money than you are.

and maybe he just doesn't like you being late a lot.

I am a Nurse and I bust my butt 8-16 hours every day in a hospital. I just got an exceptional yearly review. Our CEO announced that our profit wasn't where he wanted it to be so therefore.... NOBODY working in the hospital is getting a raise. NO RAISE 2 years in a row... I would jump for joy over 50 cents. I love my career and I love the people I work with and my patients are mostly wonderful individuals. I missed 2 days of work last YEAR.... and I was never late.

Attendance is a huge deal for the people paying your wages. I would be happy I still had a job at this point if I were you because there are a lot of folks out there who cannot find a job anywhere. Maybe after you have proven you are reliable for 6 months they would consider another raise.

Good luck to you.

PS... If you are really unhappy, find another job that pays better.

My work is similar to yours and there is a girl that started a week before me who basically does the same thing i do just has a better job title. She makes 15 an hour and I make 11. This wouldnt upset me so much if she didnt call off all the time because of her kids. I know when you have children you have certain responsibilities, but at the same time I am there everyday doing my job. Missing work is missing work, so if she doesnt call of they see her as more of an asset to the company because they can rely on her.

NEVER try to get a raise by comparing your pay to someone else's pay at the company. If you do this, you stand a good chance of going down in their perception, and not get any raise. Pay rates are supposed to be confidential for this reason. If you want to show you are underpaid, find out the average pay for someone in your position in your area and go from there.

Life isn't fair. It sucks that you aren't making what someone else is but, there is no rule that says a company has to pay you the same. Maybe you should consider looking for another job.

You have to ask yourself why they value her more than you. What are her work habits like? Does she always make it to work? Is she always there on time? Did she come in with more experience? If the answers to these questions are "yes," then that is why she makes more. Employers are always going to value their dependable employees more than those who aren't as dependable.

Did the other lady have personal problems that made her late for work. It might not be your fault , but you are still late for work. It doesn't matter how good you are if you are not there.
