she should take her husbands name unless she kept her last name for her child...to keep the same name as her baby.

otherwise, it's an insult to a man not to take his name

I think that is up to the individual. There is no real reason why a woman must take on the name of the husband. I do agree with children bearing the same surname as their fathers though.

It depends on the reasons for it. Many professional women keep their maiden names. For instance: Judges, business owners and
celebrities.
Some women compromise and hyphenate the name, using both last names.
Personally, I only care about the relationship, not the name.

This isn't the 18th century! I think its perfectly acceptable for a woman to keep her name! To keep it the way it was forever ago is almost like sexism - there's no reason why the couple shouldn't adopt the woman's name. But it is both of the people's choice.

I kept my last name. The kids have my husbands. The only problem is when someone calls and asks for my husband, i say well this is his wife, and they call me by his last name. When I correct them, the suddenly act like they cant talk to me.

good question...my fiance' is italian so, if I take his final call i would be a black women folk with a italian final call (no remember if it somewhat is not extraordinary sufficient). He already has to pronounce his final call 50 situations earlier somebody can pronounce it properly and spell it yet another 50 situations so they are able to spell it properly, so i don't be responsive to if i prefer to go interior the path of the agravation. i'm already getting questions approximately what beginning place my new final call is from and that i'm not even married yet. i think of girls folk get the uncooked end of the deal...it could be advantageous if men had to alter their names...who began this besides. i'm curious to be responsive to what area of latin u . s . of america you're conversing approximately...I by no potential heard of girls folk conserving their final call in latin u . s . of america very thrilling.

I personally feel it is up to the woman if she wants to keep her same last name or not and if her husband is ok with this so be it. Howver i chose to take my husbands last name and I carry it with pride! I personally prefer it this way.

I think its alright for women to keep their last name. For the first 18 - 25 or whatever age she is people have known her as 'x x' and now she will change her surname. It may help also to have hers and then hyphen yours if that is okay. I hope this helps a little. :)

Either have the husband take the wife's name, or wife take the husband's name.

If the husband/wife have different last names then it will only cheapen the marriage. Both will have to explain their reasoning for the rest of their marriage to themselves and to others. (be it relatives, teachers of their children, credit rating profiles, etc)
Further it will be seen by possible romantic interests, coworkers, friends and family that it is not a traditional family.

Canadians keep their maiden names. In my opinion when you get married you take your husbands name. Its stupid not to.
