If you're asking how to find out what your credit report shows that you owe to past creditors then you will need to first request a credit report from the three major credit reporting agencies. You should request all three because one may show something that the other doesn't.
After you receive the reports, just start contacting each creditor and come to an agreement for paying the debt off. People usually offer to pay 50% of the amount owed. Creditors will usually accept this. Don't pay it over the phone. Tell them to send you a bill and something stating that once the agreed payment is made that the account will be marked as paid in full. Get everything in writing and keep all of your payment records. Make sure that all of the payments that you send to creditors have an account number on them. Continue doing this for each debt appearing on your credit report. Keep in mind that some listings on your credit report may be duplicates as some creditors hire collection agencies to collect debts. Don't pay any collection agencies.
A month or two after you do all this and the payments are made contact each credit reporting agency and request updated credit reports. If the debts still appear on your reports call and tell each reporting agency that contains incorrect info and tell them that your credit report has errors. They will then send you forms that you will fill out to send back to them with proof of your payments (only send copies, keep all your originals).
The whole process will probably take up to 6 months.
Take care.
