Stalinism describes the economical and political system used by Stalin, he didn't call it that himself though.

When people use the term "Stalinism," they are generally referring to despotic brutality. Stalin himself is the ultimate example of the "cult of personality." Even though he certainly was a communist, I think the term actually refers to his style of ruling rather than his ideology.
