Lastnight my computer was working fine but upon turning it on this morning i got this message on a blank screen saying "NTLDR is missing". It's possible that i might have deleted the component needed to get me onto my computer as i was trying to clean it. I've tried to help myself through various sites including www.ntldrismissing.com but none of it seems to be fixing it for me. That, or i'm not doing it right ? Will someone be able to help me out with this ? =/ I'm running on Windows XP btw.

PULL THE FLOPPY OUT OF THE FLOPPY DRIVE!

This is my guess. If you have more than one hd try hitting ctl-alt-del and see if it boots properly (only after seeing if you have a floppy in the floppy drive).

One last thought. If you still have the same problem, stick in your Windows XP disc and reboot. Go into repair and command line, then type "fixmbr" without the "". This will load you another master boot record which is what is missing.

First, be sure to have your WinXP installation cd. These few steps won't work if you don't have it.

Got it? Cool. Now, get yourself a cup of coffee because this is a long and boring answer.

1.- Turn on your computer with the windows CD in your cd/dvd unit.
2.- When the "Installation wizard" shows up in the screen, choose "system restore/system repair" (I haven't done this in a while, so I don't remember the exact name).

2.1.- If your pc never shows the installation wizard, then it's not configured to boot from the cd. Try switching the disc into another cd/dvd drive, or go into your system BIOS (If you don't know how, read the extra tip) and arrange the boot sequence to start with any of your disc drives, then the hard disc.

3.- Type 1 for 1 C:windowsTeclear 1 de 1 C:windows
4.- Once you're in c:Windows, type FIXMBR (and press Enter).
5.- A warning pops up, press Y (or whatever means yes)
6.- After it's done, type EXIT and then press enter.
7.- Remove the WinXP cd from your drive, and restart your computer.

This should work, if it doesn't you'll need to do a few extra steps. Contact me if you need anything else.

Extra tip: How to get into your BIOS:

Hand-reset your pc (turn off, then On) and as soon as it starts working press F2, F3,or Del, well, it depends on your bios actually, just read carefully when it starts, usually says somewhere on the screen "Press [key] to enter BIOS/Setup". If nothing works, try every F key until the blue screen appears.

Check to see if there is a floppy disk in the disk drive. That can cause that message. NTLDR is the file that actually loads Windows. Since that file is not on a floppy, it can not be found.

If you remove the floppy and still get the error, that something has happened to your Windows install and you will need to do a reinstall to repair it.

ntldr missing.. to fix that. all you need to do is shut your pc off. unplug it for about 3 minutes or so. plug it all back in.. and it should work fine. if not try a different cd. of windows xp.. if you have one. some times the cdrom can read cause its dirty or the cd has a few extra scratches on it.. but in most cases you can shut down and uplug it for a few minutes and it will reset it set..

It doesn't sound very promising that you do not have the install cd but go to this site to see exactly what's going on. The info there is very clear and concise and easy to follow.
