When you registered to vote, why did you affiliate with a party rather than be independent?

I choose the party that most accurately reflects my political philosophy. I do this rather than vote for the man because the man comes and goes but the party can remain. Also the man is just one among many. I want to see my philosophy reflected all the way up and down the line.

In California you can't vote in the primaries unless you are registered to a party. This year the Dems have opened their primary to the independants, but Republicans say they don't have time to take all the steps they'd have to take even if they wanted to.

So you have to figure out which primary you'd want most to impact, or if you don't care about not being able to vote.

The reason we register with a party is so that we can vote in the primaries.

When the election comes, you can vote for whomever you feel is the best candidate.You don't have to stay with your party.

If you select a party then you can vote in their primary like several people had said. You can only vote for the people that are running within the party that you selected. Then after the primaries are over you can vote for anyone you want.
