A larger tank for the school of piranha after they kill the oscar is really what you should get to be honest. Of the filters I would say the Whisper.

nicely the filter out I even have is an Aquaclear. it is quiet sensible and ordinary to maintain. Ive had it for extra or less 3 months now and has worked super and it retains the water intense-high quality and sparkling and the fish happy. I could confess the explanation i offered it replaced into because of the fact the interior reach puppy shop had a 50% sale on their aqua sparkling products one weekend. It has a three point filter out equipment - first a sponge - then filtered by a carbon bag and finally a 'bio bag' (which i think of is in basic terms a splash bag of porus rocks meant to hold 'stable micro organism'. Im not sure how the pump makes the water pass interior the direction of the three layers whether it type of feels to artwork super. The sponge and bio bag are nonetheless in super shape in basic terms element i had to do is rinse them in some aquarium as quickly as. the only area that i alter is the carbon bag which I in many situations replace as quickly as in step with month. wish this facilitates. Cheers

Go with the emperor or better yet, get a canister filter like Fluval or Rena. Cansiters rock. I have a 75 gallon with abou 20 African cichlids. I run both the Emperor 400 and a Rena cansiter. Back ups are good for cichlids.

don't worry about your piranha's killing your oscars. more likely, the other way around. oscars are fast growing fish, and will kill and eat anything that they can swallow..
i've never used canister filters but hear they are good.
my personal opinion is that i've run a lot of whispers and they do a fine job. i have five 55 gal tanks, and run whisper 3 on them. oscars are very messy fish an on a tank thar size with oscars i run two.
i have fifteen --to twenty gal. display tanks and they all have whisper filters. i'm very satisfied.

I just got a Magnum 350 Pro... I highly recommend a canister filter.. The Magnum 350 Pro comes with 2 - 7 " bio wheels.. takes a little elbow grease to get it together but when it is together and running, the results are great... The trickle noise I heard from my Millenium 3000 was quite noisy... No trickles now... My canister filter is the best investment I have made on my 50 gal. tank.
