I used to work for my brother as a manager in training making $7/hour about a year and a half ago but I quit with no notice and he got really mad at me. Now I'm working at a job farther away making $9.20/hour but I hate it. It is hard, dangerous and demeaning work. I have injured my back twice. However, since then I have had my first child and got married. My husband, who is legally unable to drive for six more months, works across the road from me now. If I get my old job back, I can still drive him to work but I will definately take a pay cut because I will be going back to my old pay of $7/hour. But I will have more time to spend with my son/husband and the job required little effort and had room for advancement. Whatever job I have is only temporary until I finish my degree. However, I don't quite know how to ask for my job back from my brother or even if I should. Should I?

Edit: The resturant was McDonalds and they are in desperate need of people. I was told by other managment that I was their best worker. I haven't started my degree yet and I don't know when I will. Right now I work for Walmart.

call your brother and ask if he's hiring....... if he says no then OK it's his right as an employer

If i were your brother, id be angry and relucant. What you did was very irresponsible. However, if you really wanted this job and think its good for both your husband and child as well, i will say to go for it. However, you have to ensure and give him a guarantee that you wont be repeating the same mistakes again, explaining your situation to him and ask for another chance. Show him that you'll be a good worker to make him be happy that he employed you.

This whole thing is wrong on so many levels. Your brother hired you....you left his employment with no notice, made a poor choice that you now regret and still want him to rehire you because it will be more convenient for YOU? Not to mention you plan on leaving AGAIN after you get your degree!

Go ahead and ask....but get ready to duck while you're doing it.
