If I had to choose one to read to my class it would be Anne Frank, only because it is a literary centerpiece and all young adults should be exposed to it at some point. I may suggest one of the others as independent reading.

I would not use Night. Although I may suggest it as independent reading for some of my more mature students, I would not read it out-loud as it is too intense for what are really still children in a lot of ways. There is time for that.

But please, don't exchange your judgement for what posters say. You really don't know who we are are and if you are a teacher, you are going to have firmer convictions then "whatever." Take the suggestions and judge for yourself if they are appropriate for you regardless of the outcome of "Best Answer"

The Diary of Anne Frank, especially if you plan to read aloud and 8th graders will relate to Anne's age.

You might want to consider watching "Schindler's List" based on the book "Schindler's Ark" by Thomas Keneally, (or read the book).

"The Diary of Anne Frank". I second that.
