Both the Buccaneer and Carambola are equally nice. In fact they are the only 2 I would ever suggest to anyone. Carmbola seculded area and nice beach (the beach is a little nicer b/c that shore line is pulled into the cost of the islands and away from rough water) the resturants there are fabulous! When I go home I always go to brunch there. If you are looking for a secluded getaway that is far from everything then go to Carambola. If you want to be 10 mins from the life of the party then go to Bucaneer.
To respond to the previous poster C'sted is supposed to look like that ... its a historic district. Maybe you would have actually enjoyed yourslef more if you came out of the resort and mingled with some of the locals and other tourist in C'sted...btw C'sted is where the great shopping is!

I just got back from St. Thomas, and enjoyed the great resort Marriott has there. It's called Frenchman's Reef and Morningside Resort, and it is very nice. St. Croix is a very secluded and quiet place to be. St. Thomas has a lot more to do. You might like that better. Look it up on Expedia, the pools and entire resort are excellent. You might like that better, as there's more to do on St. Thomas than St. Croix. And don't worry about a passport. If your husband is an American citizen, he doesn't need one yet (not until Jan 1 2008). Yes, you do go through customs upon return, but a passport is not required AT ALL. But it might speed things up some, but that's about all. Frenchman's has 5 restaurants, 4 bars, 3 swimming pools, a beach, and is set on a cliff on a penisula, so water surrounds you on 3 sides. The views are fantastic from every angle possible. But it's kinda expensive. But comparable to the others you speak of. Note: take a one day trip to St. John on a ferry boat, it's great! And cheap. But hotel is a bit expensive, but that's pretty normal. Rooms are clean and beautiful, and in my opinion this is the best deal for the money you can find anywhere in the US Virgin Islands. Stay away from the British Virgin Islands, because that's a foreign country, and YOU WILL NEED A PASSPORT to get back into ST. Thomas or anywhere in the US. If you go, DO NOT GET A CAR. They have a water taxi to the city, and the traffic is very heavy and hopelessly screwed up. And the steep mountains and curves on the island, not to mention that you drive on the left, well, it's just not worth it. Just use the taxi's. You'll probably stay a lot at the resort, as it is so beautiful. Car is just a waste of money, and also very stressful on this island. Taxi to resort is only $14 but that's per person. That's how they do it, per person, not per taxi. Expect that. Water ferry to city is $6 per person each way. But well worth it. Beautiful views and its the easiest and fastest way to get downtown, because of the crowded traffic and roads. Trust me, don't get a car.

We just came back from a week at the Buccaneer resort on St. Croix and loved it. It is a 4-star resort without the corporate franchise feel. Owned by the same family since 1947, the Buccaneer has the feel of the 1950's with all the modern conveniences. If you are looking for a very quiet, peaceful location with a great palm tree lined beach, its for you. We didn't venture too far from the resort as St. Croix appeared rather run-down near Christianstad, the main city nearby. Otherwise, we loved the experience of snorkeling and frolicking in the beautiful clear blue waters.

I think that Carambola Beach Resort is a great choice, however, it is a resort so therefore, it's not in walking distance to anything. It's very secluded and romantic. On Friday nights they have Mocko Jumbies, Glass Bottle Dancing and a West Indian Buffet. The rooms are waesome. I'm sure you'll have great fun at other hotels as well, which would be much cheaper and closer to everything. Save your money by findind a cheaper hotel and spend it on ightseeing, eating, jet skiing, and snorkeling.
