Does the betta have any other symptoms? Is he listless? Are his fins clamped? Does he look different? Do you notice anything like raised gills, white fuzzy growths, or a bloated belly? Be as detailed as possible in case he has a treatable disease that just needs to be diagnosed.

A betta that has been with your friend for two years is actually at least two and a half years old, as the bettas typically purchased at pet stores are already mature before they're shipped. The average lifespan of a betta is between two and three years old.

The best explanation I can give with the info you've shared is that your friend's betta is elderly, and sometimes older bettas that are on their way out don't eat like they used to (However, there are always exceptions.. I once had an old boy that ate like a pig until the day he went to the big aquarium in the sky).

A bloodworm-only diet is NOT sufficient nutrition. Bloodworms are like candy to bettas, and they should be fed sparingly. Personally, I feed all my bettas two pellets twice a day and every few days substitute one meal for one bloodworm. Bloodworms are also notorious for causing constipation, which might be the reason your friend's betta won't eat.

The best thing your friend can do at this point is to continue to offer the fish food regularly and remove it from the tank if he doesn't eat it within five minutes (uneaten food fouls up the water FAST). Your friend may also want to try turning off any aquarium lights covering the tank with a cloth to reduce stress.

I'm more than happy to continue to help. Don't hesitate to send me a message.

Well I have some questions for you;
1: What are you trying to feed it?
2: What kind of tank is it in?
3: What is the temp of the water?

What is your friend feeding it ? They do best on blood worms, and some will only eat live foods.
