The + and - signify the Rh factor of the blood which is a different than the A,B and/or O which represents the coating of the blood cells

The + or - is the Rh factor, like the ABO group it refers to protein on the outside of your red blood cells. It is different proteins than what determine the ABO. + means you have the protein, - means you don't. O- people can give blood to anyone and are therefore called the universal donor. They can give blood to anyone because they don't have the Rh antigen (protein), nor the A or B antigens (proteins), because of this when given to another person they don't see any foreign proteins on the cells and accept it as their own.

Postive means you have the Rhesus factor antigen on your blood cells while people who are O- don't. Also since you're O blood type you have A or B antigens on the membrane of your blood cells either.

I myself am a completely antigen free Onegger :)

the positive refers to a type of antigen known as rhesus' fator (like the type of monkey)

if a mother is O- and she gives birth to a O+ baby, she will develop antibodies to the rhesus antigen...if she has a second child with O+, that child will be attacked by the antibodies because they will recognise the blood as being foreign
